The inactive volcano named ARENAL gives the region its name. And what a region it is. A huge man-made lake (33 square miles) offers kite surfing, wind surfing, fishing, swimming and boating. Ten resorts offer thermal springs. Arenal River provides white water rafting. You can enjoy ziplining or walking at the top of the forest on a suspended walkway. The town Fortuna which is kind of the center of the region has stores of all kinds, eateries from small cafes to high quality restaurants and lots of companies that offer the adventures presented above.
